IG II(2) 3530: Statue Base for Polycharmos

The following translation was made by Christabelle Sutter as part of an ancient Greek course at The Lawrenceville School in 2022-2023. It was reviewed by Krateros Project Manager Aaron Hershkowitz and Krateros Project Director Angelos Chaniotis.

The high priest of Tiberius
Caesar Augustus
and priest of the ancestral
Apollo,
Polycharmos, the son of Eukles,
from Marathon,
Eimertos from Marathon, son of Polycharmos, dedicates (a statue
of) his own benefactor
in the priesthood of Kleo
the daughter of Eukles
from Phlya.

Christabelle has chosen to have her translation mirror as closely as possible the word order of the original Ancient Greek. Project Director Chaniotis offers the following, more idiomatic, translation:

Eimertos from Marathon, son of Polycharmos, dedicates (a statue
of) his own benefactor, Polycharmos, the son of Eukles from Marathon
The high priest of Tiberius Caesar Augustus
and priest of the ancestral Apollo,
in the priesthood of Kleo
the daughter of Eukles
from Phlya.
